Parish Nursing

Parish Nursing Is a not for profit Christian organisation whose purpose is to maximise the well being of society in community through three specific means:

1)      Application of professional nursing skills to healthy living and coping with illness

2)      Respond to peoples inner (spiritual) needs within the members of the church and local communities.

3)      Parish nurses are registered nurses with some community experience working from local churches to develop a   whole person health ministry in the community.

Sheldon Road Methodist Church Parish Nurse is Diana Watts RGN, who is available at the church on:

Monday and Tuesday mornings between 10.00 am – 12 noon                                                                                                                          to discuss any health concerns and give personal health advice or to explain medication or clinical tests.

The Parish Nurse can also offer diagnostic tests of blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, advice on stop smoking and minor illnesses are all available to encourage everyone towards a healthy lifestyle.

There will not be any invasive procedures, dressings or injections.  It is a complementary service to the NHS provision and not in competition with it. Referrals to local GP’s will be advised if necessary.

Our Parish Nurse will help support carers as well as individuals, to make home or hospital visits.

She will offer to accompany someone to a stressful hospital appointment if needed.

The Parish Nurse will listen to spiritual needs as well as physical ones and offer to pray with individuals if required. The Parish nurse will not put any pressure on anyone to change religion or join a particular church when dealing with the community.

As Christians we believe in the care of the whole person so the aim of Parish Nursing services is to offer physical, emotional and spiritual support
